Throwback Thursday

In this week’s edition of #ThrowbackThursdaythe first photograph published in a St. Thomas Times-Journal article on November 18, 1977 showcases masonry brick repairs and new windows being installed to the lift bridge’s control tower.

The second photograph, also published in the St. Thomas Times-Journal on August 23, 1980, included the caption: “Watchful Eye. Bridge supervisor Tom Gilbert keeps an eye out to make sure everyone is off the bridge before it goes up. One of the problems faced by the operators of the King George VI lift bridge in Port Stanley is that once the bell rings and the lights flash, motorists race to get over the bridge, not unlike those who race to beat a train.”
